The Philosophy Behind Homeschooling
Home schooling is also called home education as this is an educational system that is basically taught at home, typically by grandparents, parents or tutors rather than the children going to school.
Parents are generally under stress and concerned about their children’s safety and education and they fear that they are not doing enough for their little ones. Many parents hate the regular schooling experience as they find their children tied down to the regular educational model of education that is well defined by books, regular classes, workbooks, grades, and the old regular norms.
Some parents find textbooks and regular curriculums somewhat artificial because they avoid the children from expressing their full growth. Regular education usually gives children maximum knowledge but generally, this is a myth that’s going on through conventional modes of education. Traditional education actually dilutes child’s learning and makes it boring and tedious, unrelated to their real life at home.
Children love to read colorful books and they love to be read to. They generally learn by explore new things and love to be on their own. Home schooling mainly concentrates on five basic areas, like-
Discipleship- Homeschooling starts by grasping God’s words that give wisdom. Children must learn to love God and understand his teachings.
Disciplined- Homeschool teaches basic subjects like math and language, and arts that are the base of any learning system.
Discussion- During homeschooling, the kids spend maximum time on reading history, literature and other subjects. Parents feel that they should nourish the child’s mind with the best out from the traditional schools and inculcate some education on the fine arts.
Discovery- Parents always direct children into natural learning by teaching them the basics about nature, science, creative arts and all that interests them. Basic goal of a parent is to stimulate the child towards new opportunities for creativity, curiosity and discovery.
Optional studies- Home schooling develops children gradually, according to their abilities, by concentrating on their natural talents and interests, life skills and development of the community.
Home generally gives children warmth and freedom. Education usually disciplines a child and develops the child’s relationship with their parents. This point is utilized by home centered learning model.
Parent gain freedom when they know that their child has adjusted well to home schooling pattern. God has send parents as guides. Independence and joy flows with cooperation and love as that the path shown by God. Parents usually forget learning is basically achieved when the children grasp and their requirement. Parents usually force their children to learn as per their choice and then they think that they are providing them with the best education. In this way, the children land up feeling miserable, as they are not learning things that they need to or love to. The difference in homeschooling and normal schooling is that in homeschooling the education is focused on the child’s individual behavior and learning style, and also focuses mainly on the child’s individual interest to learn and the ability to understand. On the other hand, in normal schooling the educational system is highly generalized.

Nature of Science in General Chemistry Textbooks
$49.95 Research in science education has recognized the importance of history and philosophy of science (HPS). Nature of science (NOS) is considered to be an essential part of HPS with important implications for teaching science. The role played by textbooks in developing students' informed conceptions of NOS has been a source of considerable interest for science educators. In some parts of the world, textbooks become the curriculum and determine to a great extent what is taught and learned in the classroom. Given this background and interest, this monograph has evaluated NOS in university level general chemistry textbooks published in U.S.A. Most textbooks in this study provided little insight with respect to the nine criteria used for evaluating NOS. Some of the textbooks, however, inevitably refer to HPS and thus provide guidelines for future textbooks. A few of the textbooks go into considerable detail to present the atomic models of Dalton, Thomson, Rutherford, Bohr and wave mechanical to illustrate the tentative nature of scientific theories - an important NOS aspect. These results lead to the question: Are we teaching science as practiced by scientists? An answer to this question can help us to understand the importance of NOS, by providing students an HPS-based environment, so that they too (just like the scientists) feel the thrill and excitement of discovering new things. This monograph provides students and teachers guidelines for introducing various aspects of NOS, based on historical episodes. |

Buddhist Philosophy
$24.95 The Buddhist philosophical tradition is vast, internally diverse, and comprises texts written in a variety of canonical languages. It is hence often difficult for those with training in Western philosophy who wish to approach this tradition for the first time to know where to start, and difficult for those who wish to introduce and teach courses in Buddhist philosophy to find suitable textbooks that adequately represent the diversity of the tradition, expose students to important primary texts in reliable translations, that contextualize those texts, and that foreground specifically philosophical issues. Buddhist Philosophy fills that lacuna. It collects important philosophical texts from each major Buddhist tradition. Each text is translated and introduced by a recognized authority in Buddhist studies. Each introduction sets the text in context and introduces the philosophical issues it addresses and arguments it presents, providing a useful and authoritative guide to reading and to teaching the text. The volume is organized into topical sections that reflect the way that Western philosophers think about the structure of the discipline, and each section is introduced by an essay explaining Buddhist approaches to that subject matter, and the place of the texts collected in that section in the enterprise. This volume is an ideal single text for an intermediate or advanced course in Buddhist philosophy, and makes this tradition immediately accessible to the philosopher or student versed in Western philosophy coming to Buddhism for the first time. It is also ideal for the scholar or student of Buddhist studies who is interested specifically in the philosophical dimensions of the Buddhist tradition. |

Philosophy: A New Introduction, 1st Edition
$103.49 Did it ever cross your mind that all introduction to philosophy textbooks are the same? Well, here's the antidote to that way of thinking. PHILOSOPHY: A NEW INTRODUCTION is a wide-ranging exploration of numerous fields of philosophy. All of the standard fields are here: metaphysics, epistemology, philosophy of religion, and ethics. What isn't so standard is the inclusion of fields such as Political Theory, Aesthetics, Feminism, and the Philosophy of Culture--all via a provocative set of philosophers and readings rarely, if ever, found in an introductory textbook. Featuring editors well-versed in Historical, Analytic, Pragmatic, and Continental schools of thought, this book offers as diverse a set of perspectives and genres of thought as you're ever apt to find in an introductory text. Born out of the contention that students and scholars alike come to philosophy with a desire to study a wider array of interests and concerns than many traditional textbooks would admit, PHILOSOPHY: A NEW INTRODUCTION seeks to expand the limits of the introductory canon and to give introductory students a much more accurate glimpse into the expansive worlds of inquiry in which contemporary philosophers actually dwell. |

Beyond Textbooks
$32 Technology is a key driver of educational innovation, and a variety of programmes focusing on investment in infrastructure, equipment, in-service training and digital learning resources have been established to promote its usage in primary and secondary schools. So far, little comparative analytical attention has been devoted to understanding how digital resources improve the quality of learning and to assessing the public policies that support their development and use, and the role played by other stakeholders like publishers, broadcasting companies and increasingly user communities. This publication aims to fill that gap by both reviewing and evaluating the process of systemic innovation. Drawing on case studies from five Nordic countries, the report assembles information on the knowledge bases and policy actors which impact each phase of this innovation process and the main factors which influence its success including governance, financing and user involvement. |

Jewish Philosophy and Western Culture
$84 This is one of the first textbooks to try to set the entire discipline of Jewish philosophy in its proper cultural and historical contexts. In so doing, it introduces the vibrant Jewish philosophical tradition to students while also making a significant contribution to inter-religious dialogue. Victor J Seidler argues that the dominant Platonic tradition in the West has led to a form of cultural ethics which asserts false superiority in its relationships with others. He offers a critical reappraisal of the philosophical underpinnings of this western Christian culture which for so long has viewed Judaism with hostility. Examining the work of seminal Jewish thinkers such as Philo, Buber, Mendelsohn, Herman Cohen, Leo Baeck, Levinas, Rosenzweig and others, the author argues for a code of ethics which prioritises particular and personal moral responsibility rather than the impersonal and universal emphases of the Greek tradition. His provocative and original overview of Jewish philosophy uncovers a vital and neglected tradition of thought which works against the likelihood of a Holocaust recurring. |

Philosophy of Perception: A Contemporary Introduction
$24.02 The philosophy of perception investigates the nature of our sensory experiences and their relation to reality. Raising questions about the conscious character of perceptual experiences, how they enable us to acquire knowledge of the world in which we live, and what exactly it is we are aware of when we hallucinate or dream, the philosophy of perception is a growing area of interest in metaphysics, epistemology, and philosophy of mind. William Fish’s Philosophy of Perception introduces the subject thematically, setting out the major theories of perception together with their motivations and attendant problems. While providing historical background to debates in the field, this comprehensive overview focuses on recent presentations and defenses of the different theories, and looks beyond visual perception to take into account the role of other senses. With summaries and suggested further reading at the end of each chapter, this is an ideal introduction to the philosophy of perception. |

Philosophy as Criticism
$100 Philosophy of Criticism is both the final word from a celebrated philosopher on his distinguished career and an attempt, through critiques of his major contemporaries, to explore the future of philosophy. Born in Turkey, Ilham Dilman spent the majority of his working life teaching philosophy in the United States and Great Britain and published widely in moral philosophy and psychology, most notably on Wittgenstein and Freud. After an autobiographical introduction, in which Dilman reflects on how he came to become a philosopher, he moves, chapter by chapter, into an incisive critique of key contemporary thinkers and movements in philosophy. Dilman asks us to review afresh the contributions of Dennett, Searle, Foot, Davidson and Nozick to the modern debate. The result is a vital and urgent engagement with the core questions of philosophy and a re-instatement of the centrality of criticism in philosophy.  |

Teaching Philosophy
$130 In the current academic climate, teaching is often seen as secondary to research. Teaching Philosophy seeks to bring teaching philosophy higher on the academic agenda. An international team of contributors, all of whom share the view that philosophy is a subject that can transform students, offers practical guidance and advice for teachers of philosophy. The book suggests ways in which the teaching of philosophy at undergraduate level might be facilitated. Some of the essays place the emphasis on individual self discovery, others focus on the wider political context, many offer practical ideas for enhancing the teaching of philosophy through exercises that engage students in often unconventional ways. The integration of students’ views on teaching provides a necessary reminder that teaching is not a one-way process, but a project that will ultimately succeed through cooperation and a shared sense of achievement amongst participants. This thoughtful and important book emphasises the responsibility of the philosophy teacher towards his or her students and to society in general. |

German Philosophy
$8.95 German philosophy remains the core of modern philosophy. Without Kant, Frege, Wittgenstein, and Husserl there would be no Anglo-American 'analytical' style of philosophy. Moreover, without Kant, Hegel, Marx, Nietzsche, and Heidegger, the 'Continental Philosophy' of Derrida, Foucault, Deleuze, Badiou, and Zizek, which has had major effects on humanities subjects in recent years, is incomprehensible. Knowledge of German philosophy is, then, an indispensable prerequisite oftheoretically informed study in the humanities as a whole. German Philosophy: A Very Short Introduction discusses the idea that German philosophy forms one of the most revealing responses to the problems of 'modernity'. The rise of the modern natural sciences and the related decline of religion raises a series of questions, which recur throughout German philosophy, concerning the relationships between knowledge and faith, reason and emotion, and scientific, ethical, and artistic ways of seeing the world. There are also many significant philosophers who are generally neglected in most existing English-language treatments of German philosophy, which tend to concentrate on the canonical figures. This Very Short Introduction will include reference to these thinkers and suggests how they can be used to question more familiar German philosophical thought. |
